Chris Wiggins is an Associate Professor in the School of Engineering at Columbia University; affiliated faculty in the Department of Statistics; and an Instructor in the School of Journalism at Columbia University. As of January 2014 he is also the Chief Data Scientist at The New York Times, within the Technology Division. In 2010 he cofounded hackNY, a nonprofit program which organizes student-developer hackathons each semester, and the prestigious hackNY Fellows program, which brings the country's best student-developers to New York City to work at NYC startups as part of a structuredinternship program. His research publications over the last two decades center on scientific computation and applications of machine learning to natural data. He earned his PhD in theoretical physics at Princeton.
