Even though online shopping growth quickly over the last decade, for most of the brands, brick-and-mortar stores still contribute the majority of revenue. In an online environment, every single movement by a customer can be measured and optimized, while in an offline environment, only the POS data is collected. We did some interesting experiments using wifi and Bluetooth technologies to collect offline data and help brick-and-mortar stores to know, understand and reach their customers, just like their online counterparts.

Dr. Danfeng Li is currently a director in Alibaba group, and the Chief Scientist of Umeng+, a company fully owned by Alibaba. Umeng+ provides analytic tools for web and app developers. It helps more than 1 million apps and 5 million websites monitor and management their data. Before he joined Alibaba, Dr. Li was a principal development lead in Microsoft. He also worked at Opera Solutions, Yahoo and Fico.
